The André De Shields Fund aims to create a community of many perspectives where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Through your support of the fund, students can develop, produce, and perform their artistic visions, enriching our campus with unique artistry and groundbreaking ideas. Grantees will have access to mentors, teachers, and professionals to support them along the way and a chance to have fully developed work presented as part of the annual performing arts season at the Wisconsin Union Theater.

As a student of color, André De Shields was denied opportunities on campus to exhibit his talent on stage. Nonetheless, he persevered and, through 50 years of hard work, earned a Tony, a Grammy, an Obie, and his diploma from UW-Madison. This fund was created in recognition of his significant achievements in the performing arts and, with your support, ensures every student on campus has the opportunity to share their talent.

Your generous gift today demonstrates your commitment to diversity in the arts and is critical to our mission of providing excellent and innovative programming to our campus and community. Together, we’re building a bright future for the Wisconsin Union Theater and creating a vibrant campus where all Badgers feel welcome.
